OpenAI Deep Research is getting a major upgrade, giving you the power to export your work as fully formatted, clickable PDF reports. Now you can download your deep-research findings in a clean, organized PDF and structure them more intelligently with external links. The new output includes tables, images, live citations, and a professional-grade source list, delivering rich, share-ready content with a single click and zero formatting headaches.Β here’s a quick guide on how to use it!
What is Deep Research?
Deep Research is a built-in ChatGPT feature that automatically produces source-based, in-depth research reports. Instead of a short answer, the feature returns a well-structured document with detailed explanations, tables, charts, source-linked citations, and sometimes visual analyses.
You can launch it directly inside the chat by clicking the βDeep Researchβ button under the input box.

Availability
Deep Research is now open to all ChatGPT users, including the free tier.
-
Free plan: up to 5 research tasks per month (powered by the o4-mini model).
-
Plus & Team: up to 25 tasks.
-
Pro: a generous 250 tasks.
-
Enterprise & Education: same limits as Team for now.
Deep Research New Features
OpenAI has added a βDownload as PDFβ button, letting you save research reports exactly as they appear in ChatGPT. Copy-pasting into Word or Google Docs used to break the layout, scramble tables, and drop links; the new feature fixes all of that.
What carries over to the exported PDF?
-
Neatly formatted tables
-
Embedded charts and images
-
Clickable citations and reference links
-
A clean, professional source list
In short: what you see is what you get.
How to use it
-
Open any Deep Research report (new or existing).
-
Click the dedicated share icon inside the report (top-right, not the main chat share button).
-
A Preview pane opens on the left >>>choose βDownload as PDF.β
-
You can also generate a shareable link.
-
The file is saved locally with all graphics and formatting intact.

Who can download PDFs today?
The PDF export is live for Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers. Enterprise and Education accounts donβt have it yet, but the rollout is βcoming soon.β
What else is new in Deep Research?
Alongside PDF export, ChatGPT now offers three external connectors that dramatically expand research power:
| Connector | What it adds |
|---|---|
| GitHub | Direct code analysis |
| SharePoint | Access to cloud-hosted business documents |
| Web | Live, source-linked internet search |
These connectors are available to Plus, Pro, and Team users (except in the EU, Switzerland, and the UK).

Why Does This Matter?
For professionals, researchers, lecturers, and managers, reports must be clear, accessible, and presentation-ready on demand. Until now that meant juggling tools, re-formatting tables, chasing broken links, and fixing layouts. With one-click PDF export and direct hooks into GitHub, SharePoint, and the open web, ChatGPT becomes a seamless, source-driven workflow engine.
The Bigger Picture
This isnβt just a technical tweak; itβs another step in ChatGPTβs evolution into a serious professional tool. OpenAI is reshaping day-to-day AI usage: ChatGPT no longer merely answers questions – it generates documents, analyzes data, and connects to external repositories. All signs point to one conclusion: ChatGPT is moving from a side window to a central desktop application for knowledge work. Amazing times to be alive. πͺ
